The woman pictured below has done something truly amazing, and in the pandemic while raising a 12-year-old son, nonetheless! As founder and creative director of the African home decor shop, xN Studio, Nasozi Kakembo has created a global brand that fuels local economies in Uganda, Tanzania and throughout Africa.

Nasozi works with African artisans to bring their textiles and woodworks to her US-based shop. During the sluggish economy of the pandemic, Nasozi says that profits from xN Studio were the only source of income for the artisans with whom she works, as their countries did not offer stimulus checks to those hit hard by COVID-19 business setbacks.

This July, xN Studio is celebrating 10 years in business and in the video below Nasozi shares about how her company has grown from one-table at an open air market in Brooklyn (with a 2-year-old baby in tow), into the global brand she now operates full-time today with operations in New York, Maryland and Kampala, Uganda!

Watch her origins story below & be inspired.
