Oh hi-di-ho-ho! Here we go! The first Christmas movie of the year hit theaters November 15. Red One, is your cinematic newbie for an adventurous spin on the Yuletide holiday.
The plot of this festive flick is grounded by only one goal… to save Christmas! Santa was snatched the day before Christmas and must be found before his infamous sleigh ride!
The best of the best was recruited to rescue Saint Nick. Callum Drift, Head of the North Pole’s Security (Dwayne Johnson) and Jack O’Malley, a hustling bounty hunter (Chris Evans) are teamed up for this holiday high-profile mission.
The elite dynamic duo get suited and booted to search for Santa (J.K. Simmons). Oh, and this Kris Kringle isn’t the typical jolly jelly-belly big guy. He’s a buff zaddy and runs a very modern high-tech toy factory at the North Pole.
Rounding out the cast of this holiday high-energy film, is Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka and Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Clause.
Red One has a hefty production cost of $250 million. The big budget sparked split reviews on the naughty or nice list between critics and fans. Well, the fans have spoken! This Christmas action-comedy film sleighed the domestic box office. It knocked Venom off the top spot and jingle-jangled $34.1 million in ticket sales in its debut weekend.
Overall, Red One isn’t Christmas past, present or future. It has its own cinematic holiday vibe. There’s a ton of action, gigantic fighter snowman and other mythical creatures with glitzy-futuristic visual effects. You’ll experience some laughs, a heartwarming moment or two and gain a couple of lessons along the way.
Red One is rated PG-13. Some of the holiday joyfulness is infused with bad language and has a bit of a violent edge. So, it may be a bit much for kids under 13. But, the film has good intentions to entertain… so kick back and have an elfin’ good time.
