Sex and the City fans, grab those cosmos! One of the most highly anticipated reboots is finally here! The next chapter of the iconic show, called And Just Like That… premiered on HBO Max Dec 9.
It’s a new day! Three of the leading ladies from the groundbreaking series are back! Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) , Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) return to the small screen in their new season of life. The ladies are now in their fabulous 50s learning to navigate life in their new decade.
Major shake-ups add to the newness of this revival. The core four is no more! The absence of the trio’s publicist-bestie, Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) is front and center. Yup, the ladies address her whereabouts right away in a manner that’s acceptable and believable.
Casting diversity makes an appearance and new friends pop up everywhere! It’s like one of Oprah’s giveaways…You get a new friend, and you get a new friend. Well, it’s about time! Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, and Sara Ramírez join the series as regulars. The much-needed shift in diverse friendships increase the shows relatability and reflects a better representation of New York City where these characters live.
Loyal fans can also look forward to seeing other main cast favorites. All the hubbies reprise their roles Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Harry (Evan Handler), and Steve (David Eigenberg) return. Sadly, Willie Garson who plays Standford Blatch, Carrie’s BFF and husband of Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone) passed away during filming. However, fans will be happy to know their treasured character appears in the first two episodes.
Meanwhile, other show changes and a shocking plot twist are sure to cause big-time viewer buzz. Overall, And Just Like That… has an opportunity to be a worthy sequel to the popular Sex and the City series. However, in the premiere episodes, the serious life-altering vibes overwhelm the show. The mix of humor infused during challenging situations in the original HBO series is missing from this remake. Hopefully, the energy and storylines of new cast members with other upcoming character developments will add interest and promise to the show’s future.
No binge watching! HBO Max is rolling out episodes in old-school appointment style. Only the first two of the 10-episode spin-off aired during the premiere. The remaining And Just Like That…episodes will stream weekly on Thursdays.
