There is no stopping Fantasia Barrino, who is officially in her #winning season after taking on the iconic role of ‘Miss Celie’ in The Color Purple remake and making it her own, followed by cementing her place in history as a superstar by getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, the American Idol alum is headed to Washington to celebrate America’s independence at A Capitol Fourth by delivering a soulful performance that will, no doubt, uplift and inspire.
Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the all-star line-up for A Capitol Fourth also includes Smokey Robinson, Sheila E., Sister Sledge, now featuring Sledgendary, Darren Criss (American Horror Story & Glee), Loren Allred (The Greatest Showman), Fitz & Noelle from the neo-soul pop band Fitz and The Tantrums and more.
“I can’t wait to celebrate America’s Birthday on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol,” said Ribeiro. “I’m incredibly excited and honored to be your host of ‘A Capitol Fourth’ once again. It is going to be a great 4th of July party, and we’re going to get everyone in our nation’s capital and all those watching at home on their feet dancing!”
You can also look forward to seeing Olympic Gold Medal-winning Gymnast Shawn Johnson East, who will do a special send-off for American athletes competing in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Opening the show with a dance number, Ribeiro with be joined by his Dancing with the Stars cast mate Britt Stewart. Fireworks will close the show to mark America’s 248th birthday.
No tickets? No problem. This will be the biggest fireworks display anywhere near the U.S. Capitol, so if you’re in the area you can head down to the National Mall to see the fireworks in person, or tune into the live broadcast or stream on PBS at 8/7c from where ever plan to be!
