100+ Sets of ‘ABC Flash Cards’ Donated to DC Students

Celebrations surrounding Juneteenth and the general understanding of this freedom holiday is really growing in popularity across the country. I have to admit that I didn’t even know what it was until very recently (blame the public school system in Los Angeles) where I grew up. What can you do when you grow up in a system that is not committed to teaching children of diverse background in a culturally-affirming way?

Well, this year, I decided to pay it forward by spreading the knowledge and partnered with local non-profit, D.C. Divas Football, Inc. and the charitable business owner of DC Tours and Transportation to empower young people in my community by donating 100+ sets of ABC flash cards and matching posters featuring diverse children to D.C.’s oldest historically Black parochial school, which was founded by African-American Catholics and formerly enslaved persons in 1858.
