OPINION: Alicia Quarles Needed a Doctor, Not the Cops

My heart goes out to this Glow Girl, someone who I have admired for her work for many years. Up until a few moments ago, Alicia Quarles appeared to have it all. That image came tumbling down when she posted a series of troubling videos to her social media.

Was she having a mental breakdown? Was she on drugs? Is she pregnant and unable to take medications that would normally keep her stable? All of these thoughts ran through my head as I watched in disbelief.

The most troubling news is that someone called the cops on her when she was clearly in need of a medical professional, either a psychiatrist or licensed therapist. What can the police do when they encounter a woman who is not well? Well, let me tell you what they did do. They allegedly arrested Quarles after she showed resistance to their presence, according to a report from the NY Post.

But should the empathetic folks of society be upset at the person who called the cops on this TV star, or the system that enables such snap judgements? I mean, it’s not like there’s a three-digit nationwide hotline for medical doctor, or even a social worker. Unfortunately, Flavor Flav may have been right (9-1-1 Is A Joke) when it comes to certain situations.

  1. Why are you leaving out the fact that she kicked a police officer in the stomach and that’s why she was actually arrested? Smh
