Rarely does a creative partnership feel this intentional and warm. Allison Lall and Michelle Melamed first crossed paths during their master’s program at USC in the Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young Academy, and what started as a shared passion quickly grew into something much bigger and deeply meaningful. Together, they built Centered Storytime, a children’s book series designed to foster emotional and social growth through storytelling.
Their debut book, Remy’s Attic of Awe, co-authors Lall and Melamed take readers on a journey that follows a boy named Theodore Turner who discovers family treasures and learns from a magical macaw, gradually building his own confidence along the way. The story leans into cultural and personal heritage as tools for helping children feel proud of who they are. (It’s the kind of book you wish had existed when you were little.) With Lall also serving as illustrator of the book’s awe-inspiring images, the co-authors collaborated on using a distinctive mixed-media visual style that blends digital illustration and collage to create something visually rich and emotionally resonant.
